Long-Term Outcomes of Secondary Nasal Tip Plasty After Degradation of a Polycaprolactone (PCL) Mesh

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Eighty-six patients who had a second nasal tip operation after a polycaprolactone mesh had degraded; 56 of them followed for 24 months or more.

What was recorded

The paper follows patients whose earlier tip surgery used a PCL mesh that later broke down, and who then had secondary tip plasty. It records what tissue was found at the second operation, how the tip was rebuilt, and how the result held over a follow-up of two years or more in 56 of the 86 patients.

What it shows

In revision rhinoplasty the question is not how many operations came before but what tissue remains and in what state — the principle behind the seven checks made before a further operation is planned. The journal published the paper with an invited discussion by Gubisch W and Hacker S (Aesthetic Plast Surg 2022;46(5):2366-7, PMID 35997802).

What it does not show

Dr. Lee is a co-author, in the last position. The study concerns secondary tip plasty after one particular material and does not evaluate revision rhinoplasty in general, nor the clinic's classification of failure into six causes and fourteen complications, which is a clinic explanation.

Not the count, but what remains.
